It’s time for another Barkbox review! The day that their Barkbox arrives in the mail has become the dogs’ favorite day of the month. They can tell that it’s something for them as soon as I bring it into the house and they will follow me around until I share some of whatever is inside that magical box of doggie goodies. If you follow me on Instagram, you can see a photo of my miniature schnauzer, Lucy, trying to sneak a peek of the box as soon as I opened it. And since she followed me into the studio as I prepared to photograph the contents of this month’s Barkbox, I figured that I’d let her be a part of the action. You can be sure that she was rewarded with the treats that were included in the Barkbox… I’m pretty sure she thinks that this was a more than fair deal.

Below are the descriptions of each item, as written on the postcard that BarkBox includes:

  • P.L.A.Y.  –  Squeaky, eco-friendly, and handmade with the same production standards as infant and children’s toys. Features double-layered AZO-free fabric, double stitching, and stuffing from 100% post-consumer recycled bottles. ($8.50)
  • Caitec  –  With a rubber exterior and a soft squeaker ball inside, Caitec’s ball toys are great for indoor or outdoor romping and rolling! Pups are bound to go crazy over the chewing sensation and, of course, the satisfaction of squeaky toys. ($3.99)
  • Snicky Snaks  –  Made in the USA with 100% organic, GMO-free ingredients like molasses, eggs, cinnamon, and apples, and with a minimal carbon footprint. Snicky Snaks are good for your pup… and the planet! ($7.99)
  • Plato  –  Plato hails from California, making delicious treats with organic chicken, brown rice, and rosemary! Free of artificial colors, flavors, synthetic preservatives, or GMOs – pup parents can feel good about this indulgence! ($8.39)
  • Barkworthies  –  Made with 100% beef bladder, Barkworthies junior bully sticks are a BarkBox subscriber favorite. Pups find them both long-lasting and delicious! No chemicals or preservatives are used, making them a clear winner over other chews like rawhide. ($3.15)

The P.L.A.Y. toy is a really cute stuffed carrot and the thing that I love most about it is that it’s SO soft! My Chloe loves to sleep with it in her mouth. I’m also impressed with how it has held up… Chloe is NOT gentle with stuffed toys and they’re generally destroyed within a day or two but this one is still intact. The Caitec ball has to be Chloe’s favorite toy ever. I have never seen her get as excited about a toy as she does about this thing. It’s cool because it makes different squeaky sounds depending on how it’s squeezed. And it bounces amazingly, even on carpet. She loves it for both fetching and chewing. This is a favorite. The Apple Cobbler Snicky Snaks get a thumbs up from both dogs and smell delicious! If you’re a dog owner, you know that there are some treats that just stink when you open the bag. But these smell like fresh baked snacks! Both dogs love the Plato chicken treats and I love that they’re organic and made in the U.S.A., so I don’t worry about what I’m giving them. I love to bring meat-based treats for my pet photography sessions, as they seem to be the most motivating for dogs. As I mentioned before, Lucy loves the Barthworthies bully sticks… this is what she goes most crazy for. When I have to keep her occupied, all I have to do is give her a bully stick and she’s in heaven.

I’m really happy with this month’s Barkbox, and the dogs are too! If I were to criticize anything, I would say that it’s a little disappointing to receive a bully stick again this month. We got one last month, and since the main reason that I try Barkbox is to get introduced to new pet products, it’s not beneficial to receive the same product two months in a row. BUT, on the other hand, it is a product that my pup LOVES so I can’t complain.

I absolutely loved the pet photo session with Ringo and Sprockett… both are cockapoos but these boys cannot be more different. Ringo is very energetic and extroverted, while Sprockett is a little more laidback and a total mama’s boy as you’ll see from all the snuggly photos below. It was so funny to see the contrast in their personalities!

By this point, you all know how much I love photographing newborns. I photographed sweet little Owen when he was only 8 days old. And then to throw in big sister Harper and the family’s 2 pups? Yes, this is my kind of baby session…

Today’s Woof Wednesday is brought to you by my first furry model. When I first started in photography, the vast majority of my photos were of this girl… my Boston Terrier, Chloe. And though she now shares camera time with a mini-schnauzer and a 2 year old, she’s still the one I go to when I need someone to test out new lighting, props, or backgrounds. I mean… look at that face! And she is easier to bribe than a toddler.

Like a proud puppy mama, my camera roll is full of photos of my pups… Are you guilty of obsessively photographing your pets?
