The thing that I love about maternity sessions is the all-around excitement. The excitement from new parents, about to meet the sweet little baby they’ve been waiting for. And I’m always excited because I know that in a few short weeks, their lives are going to change. And that the next time that I see them, they’ll have a new addition to their family.

A month ago we did Trisha + Aaron’s maternity session at Green Lane Park and last week they brought their beautiful little Ella Mae in to the studio. She was 10 days old and absolutely perfect. Congratulations Trisha + Aaron and big brother Zach!

It has been almost two years since I photographed Becky + Brian’s wedding, so it was so wonderful to see them again as they’re only weeks away from meeting their new baby (It’s a surprise and I can’t WAIT to hear if they have a boy or a girl!). One of my favorite things to capture during pet sessions are the little details that make a dog unique. Doggy tails remain one of my favorites… especially curly pug tails. But I also love tiny dog toenails and smooshed noses and underbites and different markings. I love how when my Boston Terrier sits, her back legs curl like chicken wings. And I love the little nubbin tail on my Miniature Schnauzer. I love the little things that make them who they are. And those are the things I strive to capture for my clients. It is with a heavy heart that I have to share that Maria and Ray have recently lost their sweet english bulldog Mack. Mack was a rescue from HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue and a therapy dog. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in April 2013 and had been in chemo for four months at the time of our session. Neither the illness nor the treatment seemed to get him down though… he was his usual happy and spunky self during our photo session. In typical bulldog fashion, he followed my every command in exchange for treats, with his tongue hanging out and an impressive amount of drool. In his defense, our session was during the heat of July so you’d be hard pressed to find a bulldog without it’s tongue hanging out during the summer heat. I have such a soft spot for bulldogs… they’re such funny dogs with sweet personalities. I have yet to find a bulldog that I didn’t love, and Mack was no exception.

Maria and Ray… my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I know that Mack was much loved and will be deeply missed.

  • Zoe - I love these! I especially love the one of him jumping and the one near the end of him with ray and maria. I know how much they loved him and this is such a special memory for them to have. They are just gorgeous.

Last week little Jack turned one year old, so I met up with the Santana family to document this milestone for their family. And, of course, there was cake involved. Because what is a birthday without cake? Below is a sneak peek of their session…
