I’m going to try to share wedding planning things that I come across and fall in love with, and this is one that I wish we could have included in our wedding. This reading would be perfect for a dog-loving couple, and I’m fortunate to have so many dog-loving clients, so I just had to share. Enjoy!

Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog, by Taylor Mali

First of all, it’s a big responsibility,
especially in a city like New York.
So think long and hard before deciding on love.
On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you’re walking down the street late at night
and you have a leash on love
ain’t no one going to mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do in its own defense?

On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breathes
and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with its needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.

Love doesn’t like being left alone for long.
But come home and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things accidentally in its passion for life,
but you can never be mad at love for long.

Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad, love, bad! Very bad love.

Love makes messes.
Love leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs lots of cleaning up after.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper
and swat love on the nose,
not so much to cause pain,
just to let love know Don’t you ever do that again!

Sometimes love just wants to go for a nice long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It runs you around the block and leaves you panting.
It pulls you in several different directions at once,
or winds around and around you
until you’re all wound up and can’t move.

But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love
stop and talk to each other on the street.

Throw things away and love will bring them back,
again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, lots of it.
And in return, love loves you and never stops.

Jen + Rich have a comfortable kind of love. The kind of love that comes from spending nine years together. In only a week and a half, they will pledge to spend the rest of their years as husband and wife. I’m honored to be a part of their day. Here are a few of their engagement photos… and you can see their slideshow by clicking HERE!

GORGeous!!!

  • Nicole - Such a cute couple! That first picture is so sweet.

Well, they are now married but I wanted to post a few more images from Sarah + Steve’s engagement session at one of the most fun locations I’ve shot at… the Grounds for Sculpture. This place has a very Alice in Wonderland-esque feel to it… I felt like a kid exploring the grounds. There’s something new, and sometimes absurd, around every corner. This happens to be the place that Steve proposed, one cold January afternoon. Not to worry, as he brought handwarmers and a thermos of hot chocolate to keep them warm. He led her along a path of rose petals towards a blanket spread out on the grass. After they settled in he read her a heartfelt letter, which concluded with him on one knee asking her to be his wife. How cool to get to do their engagement session in a place that is so very special to them. Below are some of my favorites, and you can see their slideshow by clicking here!

  • Tina - That place looks awesome! I want to shoot there:) Love the ones in the cornfield…awesome work!

  • Angela - Super cute! That place looks like so much fun!

  • Steve - Beautiful pics, beautiful place, beautiful girl!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for capturing such great photos, we absolutely love them!!

  • Matt - Love ’em! Especially the series of four! Gorgeous! I almost completely forgot about the sculpture grounds. It IS a great place for portraits!

  • sarah - these are really great april! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • ashley folkema - Wow, really really like these! ๐Ÿ™‚

As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when I received an e-mail about a session with a 6 month old Boston Terrier. Sadie was just as cute as I expected. I can’t get enough of Bostons. Her eyes are remarkable… one blue, one brown…

Michael and Linsday are fabulous local photographers. It is the biggest compliment to get to photograph other photographers. They just celebrated their one year anniversary, so we had to give Sadie a break from the spotlight and get a few shots of the two of them as well. The best part about photographing photographers… they totally know how to WORK it for the camera!

  • claire - i absolutely love all three of these images. faaaabulous!!!

  • jill - april your photography is AMAZING! the colors are unreal.

  • ashley folkema - Last image…..totally gorgeous!

  • alexa - Adorable! Love her eyes! And love the shot of them together. Beautiful!

Ang + Steve know how to have fun together… From the way they giggled through the ceremony, to the way they laughed their way across the dance floor at their reception. They truly enjoy being together. And it was a joy to see them become husband and wife on Saturday. Here’s a sneak peek at their day…

MARRIED!!!

This was unquestionably the best father/daughter dance ever! Wait until you see more of how they got down…
