I’ve always wanted a dog that loves riding in the car. A dog who is happiest when his head is out the car window, wind blowing through his fur. I ended up with quite the opposite. Chloe is terrified of the car. She doesn’t even like to walk near it. She trembles inside. It’s a sad, sad thing.

We were optimistic about Lucy’s reaction to car rides. After all, she is much less fearful than Chloe. Check her out below, on our way home from last weekend’s Super Pet Expo… just five minutes before she vomited all over the backseat. Just pretend you didn’t read that last part. Look at how CUTE she is…

  • ashley folkema - Most precious picture ever!

  • Sara - I LOVE LUCY!!!!! She is so precious!

  • Nancy - I love seeing pictures of her, she’s soo cute!

  • Allison - awe – love this photo, look at those sweet eyes! Too bad she got sick 🙁

I’ve decided to start a little feature about things that I come across that may be interesting or helpful to brides. If you have any ideas that you’d like to see featured, please shoot me an e-mail!

Registering is one of the first wedding-related tasks that we took on. We heard about the Crate&Barrel Wedding Planning events and didn’t have to think twice about signing up. Because if there’s one thing that’s more fun than getting to roam the store and scan items to your heart’s content… it’s getting to do so with a mimosa in hand. They open the store early on certain Sunday mornings to only engaged couples that are registering for their weddings. There is food, drinks, and associates available to help those that aren’t quite as trigger happy with the scanner as myself. Check out the link above for a location near you! Happy registering!!

  • Lexi - OHH, I’ll have to look up the dates for Cincinnati, Craig and I need to get on top of our gift registry. Thanks April!

Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to making Philadelphia a no-kill city. They have recently started a program called the “Pet Project” which you can read more about by clicking the link. The main purpose is to feature certain dogs or cats in an effort to help them find their forever home. I was honored that they asked me to be a partner.

Meet:  Mildred. I got to photograph her last weekend at PAWS in Philadelphia. You can read all about her by clicking on the “Pet Project” link above. We took her out for a walk and a quick photo shoot… she’s very obedient and food-motivated so I’m sure she’d be easy to train. You can tell from her photos below that she sits well on-command. And she was fantastic when we came across other dogs on the walk. She is a total sweetheart… I left with a big smile and a wet face from her kisses. This beautiful girl really deserves a home, so if you know anyone looking to adopt please pass along her info.

If you’d like to meet Mildred, you can e-mail petproject@phillynokill.com. Or visit her at:

Many of you know that I adore Great Danes. I want one. Badly. If you see my husband, please try to convince him of how hilarious the juxtaposition would be of a  big Dane and our two little anklebiters (that I love so dearly).

How majestic… no?

I love this one because it looks like Thor does not want to know anything about what’s going on in the background…

And Thor’s parents, looking fab…

  • Emily - Oh I love Thor… he is such a good looking pup!! These images are beautiful, April!

  • Becky - I love Danes too, but really I’m a fan of big dogs in general (no offense to the little ones, though). What a great series of photos Thor’s parents will have of his first year. He looks so calm for a pup!

  • ashley folkema - He is such a beautiful boy! The b&w is breathtaking.

  • Jules - Beautiful shots! He is so HANDSOME!!! I just have one question: he’s a puppy??? Geez, he’s going to be HUGE!!!

  • Laura - Oh my goodness, could his name be more perfect?! I LOVE the shot of him in that nook in front of the door (looking at the camera). What a beautiful dog!

  • claire - that shot with the arch is beyond cool!

  • kara - April – I had a Great Dane growing up. Keep working on your husband – they are the BEST dogs…they don’t call them “gentle giants” for nothing. I can’t wait until I have a house and I can get another one. She lived to be almost 9, and was 125lbs at her prime. Keep at it, they’re messy, huge, lovable, fantastic, ridiculous, hilarious, and soooooooo worth it 🙂

  • Jess Kamm - These are awesome April! My favorite one is the one of him in front of the building..very majestic 🙂
