I’m not a morning person.Β  Not.at.all.Β  But there’s something about a face like this that makes me ecstatic to get out of bed at 6:30a.m. on a Sunday morning. Meet a beagle named Makaila…

Β Erica and Kara have been friends for a very long time, so we snapped some shots of the two of them…

FAVE! Though you can’t see Makaila’s face, she just *feels* happy here, don’t you think?

  • Erica Jones - April, I cannot agree with you more about your favorite shot of Makaila and Kara! Makaila is always happy when she is with her mommy! You are so talented and I can’t wait to see the rest! Thank you for all your hard work!

  • Shauna (Fido & Wino) - It looks like that pup has got some sass πŸ˜‰

  • alexa - What a face! Adorable shots full of personality- great job. πŸ™‚

  • leesia - what a face! lovely session.

One of the things that I love most about photography is that there is always something to learn. It’s an ongoing process and I love that because you never reach a point of complacency… You’re always stretching, always pushing yourself to grow as a photographer and an artist. I take every opportunity that I can to learn from the photographers whose work I admire. Last week I made the trek to New Haven, Connecticut to attend the “Walk through a wedding workshop” hosted by the fabulous Justin&Mary Marantz. I attended both their Spread the Love tour and their WPPI class and left having gained tons of new knowledge and feeling inspired. This workshop was no different. Justin&Mary are amazing photographers, and amazing people. I love that they share so selflessly, not only about their business but about themselves. They’re the real deal. And it shows. I’d recommend their workshops to anyone, without hesitation.

Below are a few photos from the day… I didn’t shoot too much as I wanted to observe more than shoot, but here’s a few that I grabbed…

Mary, getting her teach on…

  • Meredith Perdue - Beautiful! Don’t you just love Justin, Mary & Julia? So many fun people were at this workshop, I definitely missed out! Did you meet Jake Bergmeier & Anna Sawin too?! I’m thrilled you had this opportunity, April! Yay!

When Angela described her dog Meatball as a crazy frat guy from Animal House, I knew we were in for a fun session. Meatball did not disappoint. Neither did his dog siblings… Guinness and Guido. We got together on Easter Eve… a beautiful spring afternoon… and did what the pups love to do the most:Β  run around the back yard! Meet Meatball…

Guinness… the oldest and most mellow of the bunch…

Guido loves cruising around the yard with Vincent in his sweet ride. He jumps in there himself! Watch out, ladies…

  • Caitlin - BAH! I love Guido! So stinking cute!

  • Shauna (Fido & Wino) - Those are some of the best dog names EVER πŸ™‚

  • ashley folkema - Ha Ha Ha. Their names made me smile and then the second picture down just stole my heart. Love them!

  • emily - Cuuuute, and I especially love that last one!! Adorable!

  • Debbie Shook - I love the Guido-mobile!!
